Who belongs to SCENZ?
SCENZ has over 300 members based in New Zealand. Membership of SCENZ is open to anyone
interested in Chemical Engineering or related areas. There are no prior qualifications except interest. While
those involved in traditional Chemical, Process, Mining or Materials Engineering are obvious candidates,
we also embrace Food Engineering; organic, physical or inorganic chemistry; Environmental Engineering;
Safety and Loss Prevention Engineering, and Surface and Polymer Engineering. Some of our members
have branched into new professions, but through training or work experience maintain an ongoing interest
"in the art". SCENZ welcomes instructors, students, professionals, practitioners and the merely curious.
who wish to keep in touch with those involved in the chemical process industries.
What does SCENZ do? - Our Formal Role
SCENZ is the formal voice of New Zealand Chemical Engineering, expressing the views of the Society
within New Zealand, and also representing New Zealand chemical engineers internationally on regional
and global bodies.
SCENZ facilitates technical interaction for chemical engineering in New Zealand, through conferences and
seminars. A list of active projects appears below.
In association with IPENZ and IChemE, SCENZ helps to monitor accreditation of Chemical Engineering
qualifications and instruction within New Zealand
What does SCENZ do? - Our Informal Role
SCENZ provides a social facility for our members to keep in touch. Our membership is a network facility for
those with an interest in chemical engineering
SCENZ activities in New Zealand
The annual SCENZ technical forum is a semi-formal one-day gathering for a series of related technical
presentations, followed by discussion. Usually a reminder that Chemical Engineering is lively in New
Zealand.
Joint sessions run in association with like interest groups such as regional IPENZ Groups or APPITA., are
usually held in the evening, when interesting speakers are available.
A quarterly newsletter provides a format for the occasional technical paper, comments and reviews, news
and coming events.
